Marieke Pierik

Marieke Pierik was born in Leidschendam. She studied medicine at the Catholic University Leuven (Belgium) starting in October 1992 and got her degree as physician in 1999.  From August 1999 to October 2007 she was in residency first for internist and later for gastro-enterologist at the University Hospital Gasthuisberg in Leuven and Sint Blasius Hospital in Dendermonde. From  October 2001 to February 2006 she combined her residency with a Phd program with promotor and co-promotor Prof. Dr. P. Rutgeerts and Prof. Dr. S. Vermeire. During this period she received a grant as trainee of the Flamish Fund for Scientific Research (FWO). The defence of her thesis "Susceptibility to inflammatory bowel diseases and pharmacogenetic predictors of treatment outcome in the Flemish population" was successfully accomplished in June 2006. She was an active member of the International IBD Genetics Consortium. The consortium could by means of cooperation and pooling of a very large data-set execute powerful  relating studies in nucleaire IBD-families.

Huidige positie

Since november 2007 she has a position as a gastro-enterologist at  the academic hospital Maastricht.
